ASK THE CHIEF
QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY FIRE CHIEFPETER J WALDKIRCH
How do I contact the Fire Department? In an emergency always dial 911. If you have a question you can call 262-675-6262 and if someone is not at the station please leave a message on the answering machine. Or you can e-mail me at (chief@newburgfirerescue.com ) How do I become a member of the Newburg Fire Dept? Please click here for application information (APPLY) When an emergency vehicle is approaching that has it red lights on what should I do? By Wisconsin state law it requires you to pull to the right and STOP! This allows emergency vehicles adequate and clear lanes to continue their response Why do so many units respond to incidents? Units are dispatched according to information received by the 9-1-1 operator. A structure fire requires a number of people to do all the assigned tasks. Firefighting teams are assigned certain responsibilities such as fire suppression, search and rescue, ventilation, salvage, safety, accountability, and rapid intervention teams when firefighters become trapped or injured. The Newburg Fire Department would rather be overcautious when they respond to citizens in need of help. We are always prepared to deal with the worst that could happen. Discovering that we need more units once we arrive is often too late. We have learned that it is better to have to much help than not enough. Why do fire trucks respond to motor vehicle accidents? There are two reasons. First, automobile accidents present other hazards such as potential fire, ruptured fuel tanks, and/or the presence of hazardous materials. Second, firefighters are trained in extricating (removing) trapped occupants of the vehicle. Since you cover so many different municipalities who owns your equipment? The Newburg Fire Department is Owned and operated by the Newburg Fire Department INC. Which means the non-profit corporation owns all equipment building and any land associated with the department including Newburg Fireman’s Park. Is the Newburg Fire Department a full time department? The Newburg Fire Department is 100 percent volunteer. Personnel have radio pagers to alert them to emergency situations. The personnel then leave their families and or jobs to respond to the incident. Some personnel are not paid when they leave work to respond to calls. How does the Newburg Fire Department raise funds for new equipment? The Newburg Fire Department has contracts with the Towns of Trenton and Saukville and the Village of Newburg to provide fire/ems service to the area. The Newburg Fire Department in an effort to better protect the life/property in the Town of Saukville sub contracts with Waubeka, Fredonia and Saukville Fire Departments to protect portions of the township. Along with the contracts with those municipalities, we hold a 3 day fundraiser other wise known as the Newburg Firemen’s Picnic which raises a majority of our funding for new equipment. Please click here to visit the web site for the Newburg Firemen’s Picnic. (PICNIC INFORMATION) I received a bill for rescue/ambulance services from the Newburg Fire Department what is this for? The Newburg Fire Department is allowed to bill for services provided when the ambulance is called to an incident.
