911 INFORMATION
WHAT IS 9-1-1?
When you dial 9-1-1 in
touch with the Fire Department, Police or Sheriff's department and Emergency
Medical Service within seconds. In the time it would take to find the proper
emergency number or go through an operator, help is on the way. 9-1-1 also may
be dialed from a public telephone at no charge, along with most cellular
telephones.
WHEN TO DIAL 9-1-1

A person who is injured or
ill and in need of immediate medical or hospital treatment. |

A car, train or other
accident. |
 |
Smoke or fire coming from a
building. |
 |
A person being held at gun
or knife point. |
 |
A person publicly
displaying firearms. |
 |
A person who appears to be
forcing someone into a car. |
 |
A stranger who tries to
invite children to go with him or her. |
 |
Strangers loitering around
schools, parks or recreational areas. |
 |
Someone breaking or opening
a neighbor's window and entering the building. |
 |
Someone removing
appliances, furniture or other items from a neighbor's home or garage.

Anyone suspiciously
removing things from an automobile. |
 |
Broken windows or doors in
a house, apartment building or place of business. |
 |
Anyone suspiciously
entering or leaving a house or business at unusual hours. |

A person damaging or
defacing property. |
 |
A person screaming or
calling for help. |
 |
A loud explosion or
gunshots. |
 |
The sound of breaking glass
or a door crashing. |
 |
Suspicious noises from the
next apartment or home, such as furniture being overturned. |
 |
Noises outside your home,
as though someone is trying to get in. |
WHEN YOU DIAL 9-1-1

Speak slowly. State your
name, address, where the incident took place and any additional information
you may have. |

Try to provide as much
detail as possible. If you're describing someone, try to remember height,
weight, age, hair and eye color or any distinguishing features. |
 |
If a vehicle is involved,
get its license number, color and make. |
 |
Follow the instructions of
the 9-1-1 Dispatcher. |
